  • Spectroscopy of Biological Molecules in Superfluid Helium Droplets

20/11/14

DSM/IRAMIS/LIDYL CEA Saclay(France)
91191 Gif-sur-Yvette, France

A 15 months postdoctoral position with possible of extension up to two years is available at CEA Saclay (IRAMIS/LIDYL), France. The postdoc activity will concentrate on two objectives using a helium droplet setup, which was designed recently to perform IR spectroscopy of molecules in the droplet environment. The first objective is to manage the necessary transformations for the present setup to be a facility, which will be accessible by several research groups within the Paris-Saclay campus. The Paris-Saclay campus is currently under development and gathers several dozens of forefront institutions such as CEA-Saclay, Paris-Sud University, Ecole Polytechnique, etc. The second objective will be to use this setup to perform the IR spectroscopy of molecules of biological interest.

Profile: Candidates should have an excellent background in physical-chemistry, molecular physics and molecular spectroscopy. Importantly she/he must have excellent skills in designing complex equipment. Of course this implies a sufficient backgound in IR-laser, mass spectrometry and vacuum technologies. The PhD should have been obtained less than two years before starting the postdoc. Please send, as an e-mail attachment, a cover letter stating why you are interested in this research project, a resume and the names of three referees + one reference letter.

Salary: Gross salary between 2500€ and 3300€/month depending on training and experience.

Starting date: Review of applications will begin in December 1, 2014 for a starting date before December 1, 2015.

  • Coupling ion mobility, mass spectrometry and laser spectroscopy

01/05/14

Laboratory ILM, Lyon (France)
CNRS - University Lyon 1
Cité Lyonnaise de l'Environnement et de l'Analyse
5 rue de la Doua, 69100 Villeurbanne, France

Physics and Chemistry departments of the University of Lyon are developing new approaches in mass spectrometry and laser spectroscopy for basic research on structural and optical properties of metal clusters and proteins and for analytical sciences. We are currently building a new set-up coupling ion mobility (IMS) with high resolution mass spectrometry and laser spectroscopy.
A postdoctoral position is available to implement first experiments on protein folding and aggregation. The new set-up incorporates two drift tubes, which allows for IMS-IMS measurements and dynamical studies. The candidate should have a PhD in Physics or Physical-Chemistry. A strong experience in instrument development and mass spectrometry is a requirement. Previous works in optics will be appreciated. The postdoct is expected to start on September 1st 2014. The net salary range is approximately 2000 Euros/month (~2500 brut).

Applicants should send a letter of motivation, CV and the names and addresses of at least two referees to Ph. Dugourd.

Lyon is the second city of France, two hours from Paris. Our group is hosted in a new building at the heart of the city. It is rapidly growing with 10 mass spectrometers and various laser chains available.
